Policy Change on Parking Tickets

There’s good news for motorists parking their vehicles in Bellflower.

Instead of automatically reaching for their citation books whenever they spot an illegally parked vehicle (as they have been wont to do too frequently in the past), parking enforcement officers have been instructed to adhere to the city’s general policy of politely requesting offenders (when they are in attendance or obviously close by) to move to an appropriate location.

And only when a motorist refuses to move, or is a repeat or chronic offender, promises City Administrator Jack A. Simpson, will a ticket be issued. But tickets will be automatically issued, he says, if a vehicle is illegally parked in such a manner as to endanger the public health, safety or welfare.

While fewer tickets issued for first offenses will mean a loss to Bellflower in parking revenues, the good will that will be generated by a more courteous-minded parking patrol will more than make up for it.
