Wayne Smith Rallies With Final-Round 66
Australian Wayne Smith came from behind Sunday with a final-round 66 to win the 36-hole Kuzuha International golf tournament, his second victory in two weeks in Japan.
Smith, winner of the Setonaikai Open last week, pocketed $28,800, raising his winnings to $72,000 in two weeks.
Smith finished the two rounds at 9-under-par 131, two shots ahead of Craig Parry, the first-round leader. Parry fired a 69 for a 133 total and a tie for second place with Japan’s Ikuhiro Funatogawa, who shot a 66.
David Ishii of Hawaii shot a 70 for a 136 to share eighth place. Ishii was the leading money winner on the Japan Professional Golfers Assn. tour in 1987.
