High School Baseball : Road to Sweep Directed by Crosby

Kevin Crosby was 4 for 4 with two doubles and a run batted in the first game and went 1 for 4 with two RBIs in the second game as Notre Dame swept a nonleague doubleheader with 11-0 and 8-1 victories over Serra on Tuesday at Notre Dame.

In the first game for Notre Dame (9-4), senior right-hander Mike Peterson (4-1) struck out nine and walked just one in pitching his third consecutive complete game.

Peterson gave up singles to the first two batters, but then retired 12 in a row before issuing his only walk. The only other hit Peterson allowed came in the seventh inning.

Notre Dame secured the first game in the second inning, when the Knights sent 12 batters to the plate and scored six runs on five hits, three walks and an error. Rob Kostenbader, who was 3 for 3, had two hits in the inning.

In the second game, every player in the Notre Dame lineup got at least one hit, with Jeff Antoon and Bobby Hughes both picking up two.

Crespi 12, San Marcos 3--Eric Berg hit a grand slam in the seventh inning and John Dempsey went 2 for 5 with three RBIs for visiting Crespi in the nonleague game.

Dan Carroll pitched a four-hitter and struck out eight in going the distance for the win. Crespi improved to 5-7.

Antelope Valley 4, Canyon 1--Pitcher Erik Hindson allowed three runs in 1 innings in suffering the loss in the Golden League game at Canyon.

Gary Morgan knocked in Canyon’s only run with a seventh-inning single. Tim Rorick singled and moved to second on Cory Byars’ single before scoring on Morgan’s hit. Byars had three of Canyons’s 12 hits.

Canyon dropped to 2-7, 1-3.

Calabasas 5, Santa Paula 3--Senior David Anzivino hit a two-run double in the bottom of the sixth inning to break a 3-3 tie and drive in the winning runs for the Coyotes in the Frontier League game at Calabasas.

Junior left-hander Dan Glassman (3-2) went the distance for Calabasas (5-6-1, 2-1-1 in league play), striking out 10 while allowing five hits and three walks. All three of the runs Glassman allowed were unearned.

The Coyotes’ Chris Inglehart went 3 for 4 with an RBI.

Grace Community 10, Pacific Christian 2--Cal Frost had a two-run triple and singled home another run for host Grace Community, which improved to 5-5.

Mario Soliz doubled as the Hawks had eight hits in the nonleague game. Tony Saccaro (4-1) pitched a three-hitter and struck out 12.

Oakwood 5, Highland Hall 4--David Fond walked in the winning run with the bases loaded in the seventh as Oakwood advanced to the championship of the Bel-Air Prep tournament.

The Gorillas loaded the bases on two walks, a passed ball and a throwing error by Highland Hall catcher Seth Ernsdorf before Fond walked.

Matt Cramer, who was 2 for 3, knocked a two-run single to lead a three-run Oakwood rally in the sixth.

Four Oakwood pitchers allowed only four hits but gave up eight walks. Marc Williams (2-1), who entered in the seventh, didn’t allow a hit and picked up the win.

Oakwood plays Bel-Air Prep for the title tonight.

Highland Hall (5-5) stole 12 bases, but allowed five unearned runs.
