Ed McCulloch of Hemet drove his Miller Oldsmobile to the fastest quarter-mile clocking in Funny Car drag racing history on the first day of qualifying for the inaugural International Hot Rod Assn. Texas Nationals at Ennis, Tex.
McCulloch covered the Texas Motorplex quarter-mile in 5.304 seconds at 280.90 m.p.h. on the first of five qualifying runs.
