Prep Roundup : Edison’s Noel Goes 16-4 to Set Pole Vault Mark

David Noel set an Orange County record in the pole vault as Edison High School defeated Westminster, 100-34, in a Sunset League dual track and field meet Thursday at Edison.

Noel’s vault of 16-feet 4-inches is the best in the state this season, surpassing the mark of 16-2 set by Tim Parker of Notre Dame. Noel’s previous best was 15-6.

Kaleaph Carter of Edison had a personal best in the discus, finishing first with a throw of 167-7. He also finished first in the shotput at 60-5 1/2.

Edison is 2-1 overall and 2-0 in league.

In other Sunset League boys’ track and field:

Marina 92, Ocean View 43--John Sims won the 100 meters in 10.8 seconds, Josh McHugh pole vaulted 14 feet and Marc Kallick ran 14.70 in the 110 high hurdles for visiting Marina (4-1, 1-1).

In Sunset League girls’ track and field:

Edison 79, Westminster 48--Jamie Karrer won the 100 meters (12.2) and 200 meters (26.9) to lead Edison (1-1) over host Westminster (0-2).

In Century League boys’ track and field:

Villa Park 71, Santa Ana Valley 64--Jay Benge won the discus at 149-5 to lead host Villa Park (5-0, 2-0).

In Empire League boys’ track and field:

Cypress 81, Loara 57--Chris Little won the 100, 200 and 400 meters to lead host Cypress (4-1, 1-1). Little ran a 10.3 in the 100, 23.6 in the 200 and 53.1 in the 400.

Katella 72, Esperanza 63--Chuck Underwood led host Esperanza with a shotput of 52-7 1/2 and a discus throw of 152-10.

In Empire League girls’ track and field:

Loara 71, Cypress 56--Kathy Arrivas won the 330 intermediate high hurdles (51.0) and 400 meters (65.0) to lead Loara (2-0 in league) at Cypress.

Esperanza 77, Katella 50--Esperanza’s Danielle Reeves finished the 200 meters in 26.2 at Esperanza.

In Garden Grove League boys’ track and field:

Rancho Alamitos 91, Pacifica 31--Pacifica’s Rayford Willis ran a 10.2 in the 100-yard dash and also won the 220 in 23.82 at Pacifica.

In Garden Grove League girls’ track and field:

Rancho Alamitos 65, Pacifica 51--Pacifica’s Karrita Willis ran an 11.9 in the 100-yard dash and won the 220 in 28.74 at Pacifica.

In Orange League boys’ track and field:

Magnolia 71, Valencia 65--Eric Whitcomb vaulted 14-3 for host Valencia.

Western 65, Anaheim 62--Andy Lobpreis won the high jump (6-5) to lead Western (1-3, 1-1) at Anaheim.

In Orange League girls’ track and field:

Valencia 69 1/2, Magnolia 56 1/2--Heather Killeen won the 800 meters, the 1,500 and 3,200 for host Valencia.

In Pacific Coast league boys’ track and field:

Trabuco Hills 76, Orange 56--Jeff Boscurg won the 400 meters (51.7) for Orange.

In Pacific Coast league girls’ track and field:

Orange 108, Trabuco Hills 19--Lori Kamps won the 400 meters (1:04) for host Orange.

Woodbridge 115, Costa Mesa 10--Kaci Keffer won the 300 low hurdles (47.3) for host Woodbridge (5-0, 2-0).

Saddleback 83, Newport Harbor 53--R.W. Henson went 14-6 in the pole vault for host Newport Harbor (1-3, 0-2).

Tustin 83, Estancia 52--Ron Goods won the 100-yard dash and the 220 for host Tustin (2-2, 1-1).

In Sea View League girls’ track and field:

Corona del Mar 97 1/2, University 28 1/2--D’layne Kerr won the 220 (26.8) for host Corona del Mar (5-0, 2-0).

Tustin 76, Estancia 51--Judy Jackson had a time of 11.5 seconds and Wanda Sequeira an 11.8 in the 100-yard dash for host Tustin (3-1, 1-1).

In South Coast League girls’ track and field:

San Clemente 71, El Toro 56--Jennifer Owens won the 300 meters (48.9), 400 (63.4) and 110 low hurdles (16.23) for host San Clemente.

Mission Viejo 91, Irvine 56--Lisa Fager triple-jumped 37-6 1/2 and high-jumped 5-2 for Mission Viejo.

In Olympic League baseball:

Ontario Christian 5, Capistrano Valley Christian 1--James Noonan threw a 4-hitter, striking out 10, for host Ontario Christian. Capistrano Valley Christian is 5-8 and 0-4.

In Century League tennis:

Canyon 18, El Modena 0--Host Canyon (12-0, 2-0) recorded its second consecutive shutout.
