Hamstring Injury May Force Watts From Arcadia Meet

Share

Quincy Watts of Taft High is listed as questionable for tonight’s Arcadia Invitational at Arcadia High because of a leg injury.

Watts, the defending state champion in the 100 and 200 meters, strained his right hamstring in a dual meet against El Camino Real on Friday.

“He was just starting to lift in the 100,” Taft assistant Hilliard Sumner said. “And he felt something tighten up in his leg. Luckily, he didn’t do any serious damage to it.”

A decision on whether to run at Arcadia will be made this afternoon after a therapist works on Watts’ leg.

Angela Burnham of Rio Mesa, Ian Alsen of Granada Hills, Tom Parker of Notre Dame and Russell White of Crespi also are scheduled to compete.

Burnham, the 1986 state champion in the 100, will try to defend her Arcadia titles in both the 100 and 200, and she also will anchor the Spartans’ 400-meter relay team.

Alsen will attempt to duplicate his victories in the 1,600 and 3,200 at last month’s Pasadena Games, and Parker is looking to improve his personal best of 16-2 3/4 in the pole vault.

White will compete in the triple jump.
