Roundup : Tidland Leads Valencia Past Brea-Olinda in Golf

Sophomore Chris Tidland shot a one-under-par 36 to lead Valencia High School to an Orange League golf victory over Brea-Olinda, 202-216, Tuesday over nine holes at Imperial Golf Course.

It was the 33rd consecutive dual-match victory over the last three seasons for Valencia (6-0 overall, 4-0 in league play). Brea-Olinda is 5-1 in league.

In Sunset League golf:

Edison 202, Fountain Valley 241--Scott Spencer shot a three-over 39 for Edison at Sea Cliff Country Club. Edison is 6-6 and 4-0; Fountain Valley is 1-3 in league play.

In Angelus League tennis:

Servite 18, St. Paul 0--Chris Belloli of Servite won all three of his No. 2 singles sets by 6-0 for the Friars (10-1, 8-0). Servite lost just six games in the match at La Mirada Park.

In Freeway League tennis:

Sunny Hills 11, Fullerton 7--Glenn Henderson, Sunny Hills’ No. 1 singles player, swept his sets, 6-3, 6-0, 6-1, to lead host Sunny Hills, which is 5-1 in league.

In Pacific Coast League tennis:

Woodbridge 11, Laguna Beach 7--Jonathan Leach swept his sets, 6-3, 6-0, 6-1, for visiting Laguna Beach. Randy Ivey lost to Leach, 6-3, but then won, 6-0, 6-0, to lead Woodbridge.

In South Coast League tennis:

Dana Hills 18, Irvine 0--The No. 1 doubles team of Stan Sanders and Neel Grover won their three sets, 6-1, 6-1, 6-2, to lead Dana Hills. Dana Hills, top-ranked in the Southern Section 4-A, is 13-3 and 6-0.

In Orange League boys’ track and field

Western 69, Valencia 67--Valencia competed without a 400-meter relay team or any entrants in the 220 yards in the loss at Valencia. Brian Killeen won the 800 meters in 2 minutes 1.8 seconds for Valencia.

In Orange League girls’ track and field:

Valencia 97, Western 29--Heather Killeen won the 3,200 meters (11:53.4) and the 1,600 meters (5:48) to lead Valencia at home. Valencia (3-0) meets Brea-Olinda Thursday at Sonora High. Jennifer Schram threw the discus 108-feet 2 1/2-inches for the Tigers.

In Century League boys’ track and field:

El Modena 107, Santa Ana 25--Freshman Mike Terry won the 880 in 2:06 and the 220 in 23.7 for host El Modena.

In the Century league girls’ track and field:

El Modena 108, Santa Ana 14--Leslie Moyer won the 100-yard dash (11.5) and 220-yard dash (26.3) for host El Modena. Shannon Terry added a 33-3 1/2 win in the triple jump for El Modena.

In Sunset League girls’ track:

Edison 68, Fountain Valley 59--Jamie Carrer of Edison won the 100 meters in 12.8, and her sister won the discus with a throw of 109.8 for Edison.

In Sea View League volleyball:

Newport Harbor 3, Tustin 0--Mike Nguyen had 8 kills and Chris Lee 7 to lead host Newport Harbor (7-2, 5-0) to a 15-5, 15-6, 15-4 sweep.
