McEnroe to Play in Florence Tennis Tournament
John McEnroe, who returned to competition last week following a seven-month absence, will play the $126,000 tennis tournament of Florence May 16-22.
McEnnroe, who beat Stefan Edberg in Tokyo last Sunday to win his first tournament in 1 1/2 years, hasn’t yet decided whether he will play singles or doubles here.
His decision will depend on how far he goes in the Tournament of Champions at New York and the Italian Open at Rome, said Florence tournament director Sergio Palmieri.
The 32-player competition, awarding a first prize of $18,680, is part of the Grand Prix circuit.
