Jockey Constantino Hernandez of Spain was hospitalized in critical condition with head injuries suffered when he took a spill during a 1 1/8-mile race on the grass at Calder Race Course in Miami.
Hernandez, 30, tumbled off the horse, falling head first and hard during the sixth race.
At Aqueduct in New York, jockey Julie Krone was thrown from her mount, Rouge, in the stretch run of the fourth race. She was hospitalized, but X-rays showed no broken bones.
