Blue Castello Danish Blue Cheese has been recalled by its importer after a hazardous bacterium showed up in samples, the Food and Drug Administration said Thursday.

The FDA said the bacterium, Listeria monocytogenes, can cause flu-like symptoms and can be life-threatening to pregnant women and their fetuses, frail elderly people and others with weakened immune systems.

The cheese was made by Tholstrup Cheese, Copenhagen, Denmark, and imported by Tholstrup Cheese USA, Warren, N.J., the FDA said.
