Report Says Mills Asked About Cash

Share

Chris Mills of Fairfax High in Los Angeles asked questions about how much basketball players at Indiana were paid while visiting the school last fall, the Lexington (Ky.) Herald-Leader reported.

The newspaper quoted Indiana player-escort Mark Robinson as saying that Mills told him: “I have to have money; I have to have a car; I have to live in my own place.” Robinson said when Mills was asked how much he needed, Mills replied, “Thousands.”

Mills has since signed a letter of intent with Kentucky.

The NCAA is investigating allegations that a package sent by Kentucky assistant coach Dwane Casey to Mills’ father, Claud, contained $1,000. Casey and the Millses have said they had no knowledge of the money.

Claud Mills told the Herald-Leader that his son did not ask about improper gifts while visiting Indiana. He would not allow his son to be interviewed.

Indiana Coach Bobby Knight, after being told the elder Mills said Indiana was among schools “begging” for Chris Mills to sign, said: “If he said that, then you can say that (Chris) Mills asked our players what they were getting when he visited here.”
