Riley’s Criticism of Celtics Given Too Much Emphasis

Share

Gordon Edes’ article about Pat Riley’s new book, “Show Time,” was interesting but somewhat misleading. He overly emphasized Riley’s criticism of Boston Celtic management and gave little indication of how well the book brings to life the experiences within a National Basketball Assn. championship team. The article, unfortunately, seems to have triggered a negative reaction in at least one reader. Mr. McIsaacs’ letter (Viewpoint, April 30) is, itself, exactly what McIsaacs accuses Riley of having produced: It is an illogical rant.

I work in a bookstore. Because so many people have come in to buy the book, I decided to read it myself. I loved the book. It seems to me a very clear account of life in a high-pressure, demanding public arena, with all the good and bad aspects included. I hope Mr. McIsaacs will take the trouble to actually read Mr. Riley’s book before sounding off again. I suspect he has plenty to learn from it, too.
