Local News in Brief : 2 Bodies Found After Fire

Share

A demolition crew uncovered two bodies while cleaning debris from a Santa Monica restaurant that was burned in an arson fire last week, police said. The identity of the victims and the causes of their deaths had not been determined, said Santa Monica Police Lt. Richard Johncola.

The fire broke out Friday in the former Cheerio restaurant, 1828 Ocean Ave. A transient who had been sleeping in the former eatery was treated for second- and third-degree burns in the blaze. The empty restaurant, which had once catered to trendy Westsiders, had become a “haven for transients,” Johncola said.
