Smedes Named Pacific Coast’s Most Valuable

Mike Smedes, a pitcher and outfielder for Laguna Hills High School who had a 7-2 record and batted .411 with 5 home runs, was voted the most valuable player of the Pacific Coast League in a vote of the league’s baseball coaches.

Smedes also set school records with 3 homers and 9 runs-batted in during a league game against Laguna Beach. The league champion Hawks dominated the selections with five players on the first team.
