Where to Go for Big-Bang Celebrations

Fourth of July is one big-bang spectacle that both young and old can enjoy. Huge fireworks displays are being offered in a number of places throughout the Southland.

Most locations will present the Independence Day fireworks free, or include it in the admission cost of a principal event:

At Dodger Stadium the show follows the St. Louis Cardinals game, which begins at 5:10 p.m., (213) 224-1400.

At Hollywood Bowl, it is part of the “Los Angeles Philharmonic Presents Andy Williams With Fireworks” show, (213) 480-3232.

On the Queen Mary in Long Beach, fireworks begin at 9 p.m., (213) 435-3511. The cost is included in a $6 boarding pass at the hotel entrance and is fully redeemable in the ship’s shops and restaurants.

At Knott’s Berry Farm in Buena Park the show begins at 9:45 p.m., (714) 827-1776, and at 9:30 p.m. in Disneyland, following the Main Street Electrical Parade, (714) 999-4000.

Two of the biggest shows, both called AmericaFest, will be at Anaheim Stadium in Anaheim and the Rose Bowl in Pasadena. Both will include concerts and circus acts and will begin at 7:30 p.m. Prices are $12 for adults, $8 for children and $8 for seniors. Proceeds will go to charity. Some communities are touching off their own fireworks displays. Huntington Beach will hold its 84th Annual Huntington Beach Parade and Fireworks Show under the theme of “Yankee Doodle Fourth.” The celebration, which begins at 7 p.m., is free but for those who don’t want to stand, grandstand seating for the fireworks display at 9 p.m. costs $2, (714) 536-5917.

Santa Monica will detonate its explosives at 5 a.m. in a parking lot just north of the pier. This is the second year the Santa Monica fireworks have been scheduled in the early morning hours. The display will be followed by a concert by the Los Angeles Pops Symphony. Beach parking is $5 but the show is free.
