SAN DIEGO — Eric Shortz of Pacific Palisades shot two holes-in-one in the opening round of the boys’ 11-12 division of the Optimist Junior World Golf Championships at Mission Bay Golf Course.
Shortz, 12, used a 9-iron to sink 120-yard drives on holes 4 and 6 of the executive course, which is shorter than a standard course.
No golfer in the tournament’s 21 years has ever had two holes-in-one in one round, tournament officials said.
Shortz, a seventh-grader playing in the tournament for the second time, finished the day with an 18-hole score of 55, 3 under par, and leads his division.
Another 11-12 boy, Juan Alvarez of Mexico, had a 150-yard hole-in-one on the 11th hole.
