Joe Morgan was named manager of the Boston Red Sox for the remainder of the 1988 season, a reward for turning the team’s fortunes around in less than one week as interim manager.
“We have dropped the qualification interim from Joe Morgan’s position as manager of the Red Sox,” General Manager Lou Gorman said. “We have taken the monkey off his back.”
