Lopez Gets Up to Defeat Lockridge
Tony Lopez used a powerful left uppercut to rally from an eighth-round knockdown and win a unanimous 12-round decision over International Boxing Federation junior lightweight champion Rocky Lockridge at Sacramento.
Lopez, 129 3/4 pounds, of Sacramento, won the last four rounds to improve his record to 30-1. Lockridge, 128, of Mt. Laurel, N.J., fell to 43-6.
Lopez staggered Lockridge at the beginning of the 11th round with several combinations, opening a deep gash in Lockridge’s right cheek.
In the eighth round, Lockridge sent Lopez across the ring with a punch so quick that few spectators saw it, and Lopez went down for the first time in his career.
