Chris Riley of La Jolla finished second to Nicky Goetze of Hull, Ga., in the Ben Hogan Junior Boys’ Golf Championship in Dallas. Riley finished three shots back in the 17-18 age division with a four-day total of 287.

Elizabeth Bowman of Bonita will meet Brandie Burton of Rialto in the quarterfinals of the 40th U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship at Golden Valley (Minn.) Country Club. Bowman defeated Jody Cosgrove of Kailua, Hawaii, and Stephanie Landers of Ontario, Canada, Thursday to advance.

BOWLING

Wendy Macpherson of San Diego finished third and won $2,000 in the $35,000 Ladies Pro Bowlers Tour Denver Classic. Jeanne Maiden, who lost in the championship to Lisa Wagner, ousted Macpherson, 266-192, in the stepladder final.

BASKETBALL

Lincoln’s Aaron Wilhite scored 28 points and Joe Temple 24 to lead the defending champion Hornets to a 94-65 victory over La Jolla in the Division I championship game of the Police Athletic League summer tournament at Municipal Gym.

Adam Kleid led the Vikings with 18 and David Berteaux added 17.

In the Division II final, San Diego scored the first 11 points and coasted past Serra, 78-51.

San Diego’s Raynard Wells led all scorers with 32 points, including three three-pointers.
