Perry Williams returned an interception 45 yards for a touchdown, and Jeff Hostetler, Joe Morris and George Adams had scoring runs Saturday night as the New York Giants smothered the Green Bay Packers, 34-3, in the exhibition opener for both teams at Green Bay, Wis.

The Giants’ victory spoiled the Packer coaching debut of Lindy Infante, whose three quarterbacks--Marc Wilson, Randy Wright and Blair Kiel--spent most of the night eluding a strong New York pass rush. Lawrence Taylor had two first-half sacks for the Giants.

Green Bay’s only effective drive came after the opening kickoff. Wilson, in his first game with the Packers after eight seasons with the Raiders, used a quick pass offense to set up a 40-yard field goal by Hugo Castellanos. Wilson completed 7 of 13 passes for 55 yards with no interceptions.

Chicago 20, Miami 17--Mike Tomczak’s 25-yard touchdown pass to Jim Thornton and a 1-yard run by Eric Starr, a rookie from North Carolina, rallied the Bears to victory at Chicago.

Tomczak directed a 72-yard touchdown drive to open the second half. He completed passes of 15 yards to Brad Muster and 24 yards to Thornton before hitting Thornton with the touchdown pass to tie the game, 14-14.

Miami wide receiver James Pruitt scored a pair of touchdowns in the first half on passes of 14 yards from Dan Marino and 24 yards from Ron Jaworski.

Jim McMahon started at quarterback for Chicago and directed a 70-yard drive capped by Neal Anderson’s 1-yard touchdown dive in the second quarter. McMahon completed 4 of 6 passes for 33 yards.

Atlanta 34, New England 30--The Falcons opened the scoring on a 36-yard pass from Chris Miller to Stacey Bailey and held on at the end as Doug Flutie led a late charge by the Patriots at Foxboro, Mass.

Flutie completed 18 of 29 passes for 213 yards, including touchdown passes of 18 yards to Robert Perryman and 2 yards to Steve Johnson.

The Falcons took the lead for good, 14-13, just before halftime when Bret Clark recovered a fumbled handoff by New England quarterback Tom Ramsey to Perryman in the Patriot end zone.

Philadelphia 23, N.Y. Jets 12--Rookie Don McPherson ran for one touchdown, and Randall Cunningham passed for another to lead the Eagles to victory at Philadelphia.

McPherson completed 4 of 10 passes for 74 yards. Three of the passes went to rookie wide receiver Todd White for a total of 50 yards in a third-period touchdown drive.

White, from Cal State Fullerton, caught 5 passes for 64 yards. He set up McPherson’s 1-yard quarterback sneak with a 12-yard catch at the goal line.

The Jets fumbled the ensuing kickoff and recovered it at their 1-yard line. When forced to punt on fourth down, they couldn’t get the kick away. The Eagles took over at the 5-yard line and eventually scored on a 1-yard pass from Cunningham to Mike Quick for a 13-6 lead with 37 seconds left in the opening quarter.

Indianapolis 20, Tampa Bay 7--Eric Dickerson ran 6 yards for a touchdown on the only offensive series he played, and George Wonsley ran 8 yards for another first-half score to lead the Colts to a win at Tampa, Fla.

Cleveland 13, Detroit 10--Ozzie Newsome, held without a touchdown last season for the first time in his career, caught a 7-yard pass from Bernie Kosar for the Browns’ only touchdown at Cleveland.
