Unpretentious Wins Basketball League Title

Second-seeded Unpretentious rallied from a seven-point halftime deficit to defeat top-seeded Courageous Endurance, 146-138, in the men’s final of the Supreme Court Pro-Am Basketball League championships at San Diego High School.

Kevin Bradshaw, a member of the all-Navy basketball team, scored 53 points, but it was not enough for Courageous Endurance, which led 79-72 at the half.

Steve Smith, a point guard at U.S. International and formerly at Serra High School, led Unpretentious with 29 points.

Justice For All, the top-seeded team, defeated Everlasting, 74-55, for the women’s title with 25 points from Dee Dee Duncan and 22 from Tina Hutchinson, both of whom played at San Diego State.

BODYSURFING

Mike Cunningham of Gardena won the grand championship of the World Bodysurfing Championships at Oceanside Pier Sunday.

Cunningham, winner of the men’s 25-34 age-group title, defeated all other age-group winners for the title.

San Diegans winning world titles included: John Paul O’Neill of Chula Vista (boy’s 15-17); Travis Nelson of Carlsbad (men’s 18-24); Jim Enright of Oceanside (men’s 55-over); and Susan Rutherford of San Diego (women’s 18-24).
