Sixteen Surfers Move Ahead in Wild Rivers Tournament
Sixteen surfers advanced Friday to the third day of the Pontiac surfing and bodyboarding event at Wild Rivers theme park in Irvine.
The tournament, only the fourth to be held inland, is the 12th of 15 stops on the U.S. Pro Tour of Surfing and Bodyboarding. The bodyboarding competition begins today.
Vince De La Pena (San Clemente), Shane Beschen (San Clemente), Chris Mauro (South Laguna), Craig Cottle (Malibu), Kirk Tice (Huntington Beach), Aaron Sentes (Honolulu), Bobby Lockhart (Huntington Beach), Chris Brown (Santa Barbara), Shane Stoneman (San Clemente), Kelly Slater (Coco Beach, Fla.), Matty Liu (Honolulu), Mark Belanger (Laguna Niguel), Scott Farnsworth (Huntington Beach), Sean Mattison (Jackson Beach, Fla.), Walter Cerny (Arroyo Grande) and Doug Silva (Solona Beach) advanced to today’s surfing competition.
The tournament ends Sunday.
