Prep Roundup : DiCarlo’s Late Goal Leads Sonora in Water Polo, 8-7

Chris DiCarlo scored with 21 seconds remaining to give Sonora High School an 8-7 victory over Esperanza in a nonleague water polo match Wednesday at Sonora.

Chad Feiler had three goals and DiCarlo two for Sonora (3-0). Rod Jones scored three times for Esperanza and teammates Jeff Fotchman and Mark Campagra had two goals each.

In other nonleague water polo:

Loara 7, Savanna 3--Brian Blacketer scored four goals to lead host Loara in the opener for both teams. Dong Kim added two goals for Loara. Ciaran Crawford scored three times for Savanna.

University 10, El Toro 7--Brian Ballard scored five goals, Scott Jordan three and Greg Krogen two for host University in the opener for both teams.

In nonleague girls’ tennis:

Laguna Hills 11, Mission Viejo 7--Jenny Marques and Brook Flemming swept three sets each to lead host Laguna Hills (3-0). Marques won, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, and Flemming won, 6-2, 6-1, 6-1.

Marina 16, Woodbridge 2--Tracy Crissell swept her singles sets, 6-2, 6-1, 6-0, to lead host Marina.

Rolling Hills 9, Estancia 9 (Rolling Hills won on games, 75--66)--At Estancia, Rolling Hills was led by Rene Capri who swept her sets, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0. Estancia (3-1) was led by its doubles teams, which won 7 of 9 sets. Kari Deutsch and Shannon Suzuki swept, 6-1, 6-2, 6-3, as did Liz Collins and Molly Romm, 6-2, 6-4, 6-1.

Capistrano Valley 11, Newport Harbor 7--Page Bartelt won her singles sets, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, to lead Capistrano Valley (1-0) at Newport Harbor.

Fountain Valley 17, Laguna Beach 1--Host Fountain Valley was led by Kellie Thompson, who swept her sets, 6-1, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 1 singles. Renee Urricariet, at No. 3 singles, also swept her sets, 6-0, 6-0, 6-1. The Barons’ No. 1 doubles team of Marissa Mell and Stacy Gossard won, 6-1, 6-3, 7-5. Fountain Valley is 3-0.

In girls’ volleyball:

El Modena 3, El Dorado 0--Tracy Endecavegeh had 20 assists and 5 kills as El Modena (3-0) won, 15-6, 15-7, 15-3, at El Dorado.

Lakewood St. Joseph’s 3, La Quinta 0--St. Joseph’s defeated host La Quinta, 15-7, 16-14, 15-11.
