Hornaday recorded his only win of the season in the 40-lap Modified event, which was slowed by seven yellow and two red flags. Chuck Pittenger of Northridge finished second and Glen Cummings of Highland finished third.

Cummings, who began the evening as the Modified points leader, finished the season as division champion.

Phipps, who already had clinched an unprecedented third consecutive Sportsman title, had won the past five main events.

Herb Hill of Simi Valley won the 15-lap Sportsman semi-main. Wild Bill Foster of Acton, racing for the first time since retiring in 1979, finished second and also advanced.
