Long Beach Wilson 16, Huntington Beach 7--Wilson was led at Sheue Field by senior fullback Scott Bernauer, who rushed for 87 yards on 20 carries and scored two touchdowns.

Bruins’ quarterback Tim Williams added 101 yards passing, 45 of them coming on a long pass to tight end John Deppe, which set up Bernauer’s second scoring run of two yards.

Huntington Beach moved the ball well in the first quarter and scored its only touchdown.

But by the second quarter, Huntington Beach was unable to move the ball. The Oilers also lost wide receiver Doug Cunningham, who left the game with a pulled groin muscle soon after catching a 12-yard touchdown pass.

“We lost our best player,” Oilers Coach George Pascoe said. “That killed our passing game.”
