A baby girl about 8 months old was apparently abandoned in the waiting area of the children’s ward of Mercy Hospital on Monday, police said.
The child was discovered shortly before 2 p.m. by a secretary who works on the fourth floor of the hospital, which is the pediatric ward, said police spokesman Bill Robinson.
The 21-pound infant was described as fair-skinned, with brown hair and blue eyes, and was wearing a pink dress, Robinson said.
Hospital employees searched nearby floors for the parents, but no one claimed the child, Robinson said.
The girl was taken by police to the Hillcrest receiving home.
