Chris Shockley scored twice in the fourth quarter to lead Pacifica High School to a 20-3 Garden Grove League victory over Bolsa Grande Friday at Bolsa Grande.

Shockley’s 1-yard touchdown run with 4 seconds gone in the fourth quarter gave Pacifica (5-1-1, 4-0) a 13-3 lead. The score capped a 12-play, 63-yard drive that included two completions by Bobby Anderson of 20 and 19 yards to Tim Stevenson and Kevin Prentiss, respectively. Shockley also helped the drive by spinning through 3 tacklers on a 15-yard run to the Bolsa Grande 5.

Shockley, who gained 79 yards in 10 carries in the second half, scored his second touchdown of the fourth quarter with 7 minutes left when he broke 2 tackles in a 24-yard run. The score climaxed a 4-play drive in which Shockley gained 47 yards on 3 carries.

Shockley managed only 33 yards on 13 first-half carries. “We told him (Shockley) at halftime that he had to run through the seams and run north to south instead of toward the sidelines and he did just that,” said Bill Craven, Pacifica coach.

Pacifica got the only score of the first half with 5 minutes left in the second period on Stevenson’s leaping catch of a 6-yard touchdown pass from Anderson.

Bolsa Grande (2-5, 1-3), which generated just 33 yards total offense in the first half, had its best scoring opportunity late in the second period when it drove 38 yards in 9 plays to the Pacifica 25.

The series, which was aided by a face-mask penalty against the Mariners, ended with 1 minute left in the half when Sonny Nguyen’s 41-yard field goal attempt was blocked by Pacifica’s Mike Dickerson.

The Matadors narrowed Pacifica’s lead to 7-3 with 4 minutes left in the third quarter on Nguyen’s 27-yard field goal.
