College Roundup : Warde and Bell Lead UCI Past Pepperdine in Water Polo
Tom Warde scored 5 goals and Tony Bell scored 4 to lead UC Irvine to an 11-6 victory over Pepperdine in a Big West Conference water polo match Sunday at Heritage Park in Irvine.
Warde scored twice in the first quarter and the score was tied, 2-2. But Irvine (12-8 overall and 4-1 in conference play) scored 5 goals and shut out Pepperdine in the second quarter to lead, 7-2, at halftime.
In Big West Conference men’s soccer:
Cal State Fullerton 1, Fresno State 1--Steve George scored with 24 seconds left in regulation to tie the score for host Cal State Fullerton (6-8-2, 3-3-1). Robbie Danner scored 20 minutes into the first half for Fresno State (8-6-3, 5-1-1).
UC Santa Barbara 3, UC Irvine 1--Erik Kirsch scored for host Irvine (6-9, 2-4).
In nonconference women’s soccer:
UC San Diego 4, UC Irvine 1--Michelle Braceros scored with 2 minutes left as visiting Irvine (4-10-4) avoided the shutout.
