Prep Roundup : Ammann Leads Edison Past Fountain Valley in Tennis

Lisa Ammann, Edison High School’s No. 1 singles player, defeated Kelly Thompson of Fountain Valley, 6-3, to give Edison a 10-8 victory in a Sunset League girls’ tennis match at Fountain Valley Tuesday.

No. 1 doubles team Nikki Turner and Tracy Goedecke helped Edison (13-6, 7-1) by sweeping their doubles sets, 6-4, 6-0, 6-0.

In Century League tennis:

Canyon 17, Santa Ana Valley 1--No. 1 singles Heather Hodge swept her sets at 6-0 to lead Canyon (14-1, 6-0) at Santa Ana Valley.

In Empire League tennis:

Los Alamitos 14, Loara 4--Jennifer Shoudt swept her sets, 6-0, 6-3, 6-0, to lead Los Alamitos (12-2, 8-1) at home.

In the Freeway League:

Fullerton 10, Sunny Hills 8--Loraine Lau swept her sets at 6-0 to lead the first-place Indians (13-1, 7-0) at home.

In the Sea View League:

Corona del Mar 16, Newport Harbor 2--Iliama Adame swept her sets, 6-1, 6-2, 6-0, and Kristy Phebus and Robin Bain swept their doubles sets, 6-1, 6-0, 6-0, to lead the Sea Kings (16-1, 7-0) at home.

University 10, Saddleback 8--University’s Jeannette Fylpaa swept her sets, 6-1, 6-0, 6-0, to better her record to 45-3 at home.

In the South Coast League:

Capistrano Valley 15, El Toro 3--Michelle Foster (31-1) swept her sets to lead the Cougars (14-1, 8-0) at El Toro.

In Angelus League girls’ volleyball:

Mater Dei 3, Bishop Amat 0--Mary Eberhart had 12 kills to lead Mater Dei (8-5, 8-2) to a 15-6, 15-4, 15-6 victory at home.

In the Empire League:

Esperanza 3, Cypress 0--Jenise Webb had 14 kills to lead the Aztecs (10-1, 7-0) to a 15-4, 15-3, 15-5 victory at home.

Los Alamitos 3, Loara 0--Cara Dane had 15 kills to lead the Griffins (10-6, 4-3) to a 15-8, 15-7, 15-13 victory at home.

In the Freeway League:

Sunny Hills 3, Fullerton 1--Jana Nelson (16 aces and 12 kills) and Lynn Gilbert (8 kills) led Sunny Hills to a 7-15, 15-2, 15-3, 15-11 victory at home.

In the Orange League:

Magnolia 3, Savanna 0--Jill Schneider (14 kills, 4 blocks) led Magnolia (4-6, 3-4) to a 15-12, 15-3, 15-11 victory at Magnolia.

Valencia 3, Anaheim 0--Erica McCabe (12 kills) led the Tigers (9-6, 4-3) to a 15-9, 15-7, 15-12 victory at Anaheim.

Western 3, Brea-Olinda 0--Brea-Olinda’s Jill Terry had 13 kills, but the Wildcats (3-4) lost, 15-6, 15-3, 15-5, at home.

In the Sea View League:

Corona del Mar 3, Newport Harbor 2--Laurie Sawin (32 kills) and sophomore Stacy Petersen (11 service aces) led the Sea Kings (9-2, 7-0) to a 11-15, 15-4, 7-15, 15-9, 15-2 victory at home. Sienna Curci had 37 assists for Newport Harbor (10-4, 5-2).

Irvine 3, Dana Hills 1--Bev Oden (16 kills, 9 blocks) led Irvine (11-0, 7-0) to a 15-12, 15-4, 10-15, 15-1 victory at Dana Hills.
