A Mexican woman attempting to scurry across a San Diego freeway early Sunday morning was struck by a car and killed.

Justa Nunez, 52, of Durango, Mexico, died of massive injuries after she was struck on Interstate 805 north of San Ysidro Boulevard, authorities said.

Nunez was following her daughter, grandson and another unidentified man across the freeway in the darkness at about 4 a.m. when she was hit by a car that then fled the scene, police said.

The woman was then struck by two other vehicles as she lay on the freeway. She died at the scene, police said.
