A 16-year-old girl was seriously injured late Thursday when she was thrown from her sister’s car, then struck by a hit-and-run driver, police said.

Shannon Burton of San Diego suffered a fractured skull and pelvis and was listed in serious condition at UCSD Medical Center on Friday, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Burton’s 17-year-old sister, whose name was not released because she is a minor, was arrested on suspicion of felony drunk driving and released to her parents, San Diego police Sgt. Nate Caplan said.

The 11:02 p.m. accident occurred at 33rd Street and Webster Avenue, where, according to witnesses, Burton’s sister violated an oncoming car’s right of way and was hit. The oncoming car struck Burton and sped away, Caplan said.
