Senior Scott Garcia rushed for a San Diego Section record 361 yards in 31 carries Friday night to lead top-ranked and undefeated Rancho Buena Vista to a 35-13 Avocado League win at San Pasqual.

Garcia, the county’s leading rusher, broke the 20-year-old record of 353 set by Mission Bay’s Wayne Myron.

“It’s my offensive line,” Garcia said. ‘They come out and block really well and handle everybody and I just go from there.’

Garcia, a 5-foot, 10-inch, tailback, came 1 touchdown short of tying another record, the one for most touchdowns in a season. He scored 4 times and now has 31. Terry Rodgers of Sweetwater set the mark of 32 in 1985.

Garcia will have more opportunities to break the touchdown mark when RBV plays in the playoffs. It will likely receive a first-round bye next Friday and won’t play until Nov. 25.

RBV’s team rushing attack also ran its way into the record books Friday night.

RBV gained 507 yards rushing and lifted its season total to 4,080, breaking the old mark of 3,972 set by Imperial in 1979.

Junior O.J. Hall added to the rushing totals with 112 yards in 14 carries. He scored the game’s final touchdown on a 3-yard run with 1:01 left.

RBV (10-0, 7-0) scored first on a 10-play, 82-yard drive that was almost all Garcia. The 5-foot 10-inch senior tailback carried 5 times for 56 of his 167 first-half yards. He capped the drive with a 24-yard run. Able Lopez added the extra point and, with 45 seconds remaining in the first quarter, RBV led, 7-0.

RBV took a 13-0 lead on its next possession, a 5-play, 85-yard drive capped by a 54-yard run by Garcia through the heart of the San Pasqual defense. Lopez’s try for the extra point sailed wide left.

San Pasqual took over, but could not move and was forced to punt. RBV started on its on 46, but O.J. Hall fumbled on the first play and Roger Hill recovered for San Pasqual.

On San Pasqual’s second play, quarterback Andy Loveland passed to Eric Olsen, who found an opening in the seam. Olsen zig-zagged through defenders for a 52-yard touchdown play. Tony Medina added the extra point, and RBV’s lead was 13-7.

RBV’s Lopez attempted a 36-yard field goal at the end of the half, but San Pasqual’s Kevin Herde came in from the left side and blocked it.

RBV came out and dominated the second half as Garcia scored on runs of 3 and 51 yards. San Pasqual (6-4, 4-3) got a 43-yard run by Jim Clayton to close out the scoring. San Pasqual finished third in the league and will likely receive a playoff bid.
