A 33-year-old Chatsworth man was shot and killed Monday after he pointed a rifle at two Los Angeles police officers, authorities said.

The victim, Mark Trerotrol, was shot in the abdomen in the 20400 block of Hiawatha Street at about 4 p.m., Lt. William Hall said. He was taken to Granada Hills Community Hospital where he died.

The officers were sent to the victim’s address after receiving a phone call that a man was brandishing a gun there, Hall said. They found Trerotrol and his mother wrestling over a rifle on the front lawn, Hall said.

Trerotrol pushed his mother away and pointed the rifle at the officers, who opened fire, Hall said. It was not immediately known how many shots were fired or if Trerotrol fired the weapon he was holding, Hall said.
