High School Volleyball Playoffs : Thousands Oaks Girls Advance to 4-A Semifinals

Thousand Oaks High might have taken a step up, but the Lancers have showed no sign of slowing down. On Tuesday, Thousand Oaks defeated Fountain Valley, 15-11, 13-15, 15-6, 15-4, in a girls’ 4-A volleyball quarterfinal playoff match at Thousand Oaks.

Coach Ron Beick has led the team to titles in the lower 2-A Division in each of the past 2 years. But his team is still surprising opponents.

The Lancers were led by outside hitter Jamie Heggen (14 kills), middle blocker Betsy Moore (13 kills) and setter Amy Chellevold (11 kills).

Thousand Oaks (19-1), ranked No. 2 in the division, advances to the semifinal round Thursday.

In another 4-A match:

Edison d. Newbury Park, 15-10, 15-12, 2-15, 15-11--Edison upset the Panthers at Newbury Park to advance to the semifinal round.

1-A DIVISION

L.A. Baptist d. Windward, 15-8, 15-12, 15-9--Undefeated L. A. Baptist, which has not lost a game in the playoffs, swept Windward at home to advance to the semifinal round Thursday against Campbell Hall at a site to be determined.

Campbell Hall d. Paraclete, 4-15, 15-7, 15-11, 15-6--Middle blocker Crissy Mills had 14 kills, 4 blocks and 14 service points to lead the Vikings in the quarterfinal match at Paraclete.

Setter Jeanelle Meskimen had 55 assists and outside hitter Abby Ackroyd had 11 kills.

CITY 4-A DIVISION

Chatsworth d. Venice, 15-17, 15-13, 15-7, 15-6--Outside hitters Jennifer Mischler (17 kills) and Shawn Davison (14 kills) led a Chancellor comeback in a quarterfinal playoff match at Chatsworth.

Middle hitter Lori Mertes had 12 kills for Chatsworth (14-1), which advances to the semifinal round.
