Torrey Pines’ Final Shot at Poway Is for the Title

After Torrey Pines defeated Serra Wednesday night to advance to the San Diego Section Division I volleyball final, Coach Jim Harrah spoke of his team’s goals.

At the bottom of the list was “play Poway again.”

Harrah then watched as Poway defeated Granite Hills to make the goal a reality.

Harrah wanted another shot at top-seeded Poway, a team second-seeded Torrey Pines (30-3) has lost to three times this season. Poway (24-0) only lost one game in the process.

Is it possible for Torrey Pines to actually win when the teams meet for the title at 7 tonight at University City High?

“Our girls really believe they can beat them,” Harrah said. “We’re a really young team, and we have improved tremendously. We’re going to go out and give 100%. It will be (Poway’s) toughest match of the year.”

The Torrey Pines-Poway match will conclude a tripleheader that starts with the Division III match between Francis Parker (18-5) and Marian (23-4) at 3 p.m. The Division II final between University of San Diego High and La Jolla follows at 5.

In Division II, USDHS (24-3) is playing La Jolla (19-5) in the final for the third consecutive season. USDHS has won the past 2 seasons.
