Carl Hubbell Is Injured Seriously in Crash
Hall of Fame pitcher Carl Hubbell was seriously hurt Saturday morning when the car he was driving struck a metal pole along a city street, police said.
It appeared that Hubbell, 85, suffered a heart attack or stroke which caused him to lose control of the vehicle, authorities said.
Hubbell was in critical condition at Scottsdale Memorial Hospital-Osborn, a nurse said.
The left-handed pitcher, who lives about 1 mile from the accident scene, won 253 games for the New York Giants from 1928 to 1943.
