Westchester, 13, Reseda 6--As Reseda Coach Joel Schaeffer walked out of Westchester High, a Reseda booster handed Schaeffer a videotape of the just-concluded game. “You know what,” Schaeffer said, grabbing the tape, “I’m gonna watch the first half of this and then turn off the machine.”
The reaction was understandable considering that Westchester--after providing Reseda with 24 minutes of highlight film--rallied from a 6-point first-half deficit to beat the Regents in a 3-A Division quarterfinal.
Westchester (9-3) took a 7-6 lead in the third quarter on a 28-yard run by tailback Tim Holliday, who finished with a game-high 113 yards in 17 carries.
Westchester also scored in the fourth quarter to take a 13-6 lead, but Holliday was stopped short on a 2-point conversion run.
The Regents scored with 2:50 left in the first half on a 1-yard run by Aaron Brumfield.
