Kevin Prentiss scored 3 touchdowns Friday to lead the Pacifica High School football team to a 28-9 victory over Saddleback in a second-round Southern Section Division VI playoff game in front of 1,100 at Santa Ana Stadium.

Saddleback (4-7) took a 3-0 lead on Beto Zavala’s 46-yard field goal on its first possession. But Pacifica (10-1-1) soon shut Saddleback down and began moving the ball.

“We started slowly because we were on defense,” Pacifica Coach Bill Craven said.

Pacifica had first-and-10 on its 35 when Bobby Anderson passed to Prentiss at his 48. Prentiss then broke 5 tackles en route to a 65-yard touchdown with 6 minutes and 24 seconds remaining in the half.

Anderson completed his third touchdown pass, 27 yards to Tim Stevenson, with 8:57 left in the third quarter.

Saddleback also scored in the third quarter when Jeff Blanco completed a 5-yard touchdown pass to Juan Acuna on fourth down to cap a 20-play, 83-yard drive.

Prentiss’ third touchdown was a 35-yard fumble return with 2:25 left the fourth quarter.
