Kyle Lundy scored 22 points and Jeff Bickmore added 21 to lead Southern California College to a 93-78 nonconference basketball victory over Christian Heritage Wednesday at SCC.

Lundy, a 6-foot 2-inch transfer student from Northern Arizona University, scored 13 of his points in the first half as SCC (4-0) built a 51-40 halftime advantage. Lundy, who made all 4 of his 3-point shot attempts, made 8 of 11 shots from the field.

Bickmore, a 6-7 center who led Vanguard rebounders with 7, scored 13 points in the second half as SCC led by as many as 21 points--73-52 with 12 minutes left and 82-61 with 8 minutes remaining.

Christian Heritage (4-1) got as close as 85-72 with 4 minutes left, but Lundy made two free throws and Phil Hill and Kevin Graddy each contributed baskets to seal the SCC victory.

“We’ve been pretty blessed with guys who can shoot the ball like Kyle,” said Bill Reynolds, SCC coach, who watched the Vanguards make 8 of 9 3-point shots, including all 5 first-half attempts. “We came out very intense to start the game, but we let up a bit and they were able to cut the margin, but we just came right back and made the plays when we had to.”

Said Ray Slagle, Christian Heritage coach: “They were too quick for us. They scored 18 first-half points off their fast break. They run the floor very well and they are unselfish. For a team of their size, they are outstanding.”

SCC, which outscored Christian Heritage, 13-2, in the first 3 minutes of the game, had its biggest first-half lead, 46-29, with 3 minutes remaining. But Christian Heritage narrowed the lead to 48-40 with 42 seconds left.

Todd Dixon answered the Christian Heritage threat with a 3-point shot over a double team with 2 seconds remaining to give the Vanguards their halftime lead.

Dixon, who made 7 of 12 shots from the field, scored 18 points. Jim Mansfield, a senior from Fullerton College, came off the bench to score 11 points and hand out 6 assists for SCC.
