Moorpark Basketball Tournament to Begin

The Moorpark College men’s basketball team will play defending tournament champion Rio Hondo at 7 tonight in the first round of the 20th Moorpark tournament.

Ventura will play Citrus at 9 p.m. in another first-round game of the 8-team tournament.

Four teams from the Western State Conference will play in the 3-day tournament--Ventura, Oxnard, West Los Angeles and Moorpark.

Moorpark (4-1) lost to Pasadena City in the championship game of the PONY Tournament at Saddleback last week.

The winner of the Moorpark-Rio Hondo game will play either Oxnard or the Occidental junior varsity in a second-round game at 7 p.m. Friday.

The Raiders have not won their tournament since 1986.
