Morningside survived a tough Washington defense and a second-half scoring slump to win its own tournament final, 49-48, before a spirited crowd of 200 at Morningside High.

The Monarchs were led by 6-5 inch Lisa Leslie, who scored a game high 27 points. She was named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament.
