One-hundred-thirty-five and counting.

That’s the consecutive number of games the Point Loma girls’ basketball team has now won at home.

“Pretty incredible,” Pointers Coach Lee Trepanier said Saturday after watching Point Loma (4-0) defeat previously unbeaten Vista (3-1), 54-44, in the championship game of the Point Loma tournament.

“We controlled that game from the first quarter to the last,” Trepanier said for the team that once again seems to be the best in the county.

Point Loma took a 19-13 lead into the second quarter and extended it to 33-22 at the half.

Vista’s biggest problem was turnovers; the Panthers committed close to 30.

“We just turned the ball over too many times,” Vista Coach Joe DeMaria said. “We couldn’t get into our half-court game as much as I wanted to be, and we got caught up in their fast pace.”

Vista also was unprepared to deal with the scoring of Point Loma’s senior guard, Monica Filer, who had 29 points to lead all scorers. Filer is averaging 29 points, the Pointers 76.

For Vista, 6-foot 4-inch center Chris Enger was “held” to 25 points.

“Tyeast (Brown) did a great job on Chris,” Trepanier said. “That’s the lowest she’s scored in a long time.”

Sophomore Chris Drumm added 17 points for Point Loma.

“I think this is the toughest game we’ll play all season,” Filer said, “and we’ll never have to meet them again.”

Point Loma has beaten Vista at home the past 4 years they’ve met.

In other tournament games, Mission Bay defeated Mt. Miguel, 69-18; Mira Mesa defeated San Diego, 64-31, and Fallbrook beat Crawford, 53-28.
