Nation : Alaska Rocked by Second Quake

Associated Press

The second earthquake in Alaska in 27 hours rocked two fishing villages early today, but there were no reports of damage or injuries from the strong temblor, officials said.

The tremor registered about 5.8 in magnitude. It struck at 1:42 a.m. AST and was centered beneath the ocean 20 miles northeast of Unalaska in the Aleutian Islands, said Alec Medbery of the Alaska Tsunami Warning Center. Medbery said the quake jolted Unalaska and neighboring Dutch Harbor, a major base for fishing vessels, but caused no damage. No other settlements were close enough to the epicenter to feel the tremor, he added.
