A 6-year-old Buena Park girl who sustained severe head injuries and a broken neck when she was hit by a car in Buena Park died Wednesday morning from her injuries.

Mary Dargan of Buena Park was walking hand in hand with her grandmother and younger sister Tuesday afternoon when all three were hit in a marked crosswalk near San Marino Elementary School.

Rose Dargan, 72, was in serious but stable condition at Los Alamitos Medical Center where she was being treated for a fractured pelvis and lacerations. Morgan Dargan, 5, who suffered a broken leg in the accident, was treated at La Palma Intercommunity Hospital and then

transferred to Charter Community Hospital in Hawaiian Gardens.

The driver of the car, Deborah A. Casey, 25, of La Palma was not injured. The case will be turned over to the Orange County district attorney’s office to determine whether charges are warranted.

The accident occurred at 2:18 p.m. Tuesday in a yellow crosswalk on Crescent Avenue at San Marino Drive. Casey told police that she had not seen the pedestrians. She was questioned at the scene and released without a citation, pending an investigation. Witnesses said that other cars had stopped while the Dargans crossed the street and that the pedestrians had almost made it across when they were hit.

An autopsy on Mary Dargan is scheduled today.
