Bob Hiegert, athletic director at Cal State Northridge, was inducted into the American Baseball Coaches Assn. Hall of Fame last weekend at ceremonies during the ABCA convention in Nashville, Tenn.

Hiegert, 46, retired as baseball coach in 1984 after compiling a 609-411-9 record in 18 seasons and leading Matador teams to 2 NCAA Division II titles, 5 World Series appearances and 5 West regional championships. He is only the fourth Division II coach to gain entry to the Hall of Fame.

“It’s an overwhelming award,” Hiegert said by phone from San Francisco where he is attending the NCAA convention. “It was a great feeling to see the amount of people that took the time to go back there.”
