Twenty-four hours after a less-than-satisfactory effort, the Notre Dame High boys’ basketball team took out its frustrations on former Del Rey League rival Alemany.

Notre Dame used a pressing defense to outscore Alemany by 21 points in the first quarter en route to a 101-40 rout in a nonleague game at Notre Dame on Saturday night.

The Knights (9-8), who had struggled past St. Genevieve, 80-70, on Friday, came out with renewed vigor against Alemany.

“We weren’t very satisfied with the way we played against St. Gens,” Notre Dame Coach Mickey Cady said. “I think that pushed our defense to get going a little faster.”

Keyed by a pressing defense, Notre Dame outscored Alemany, 29-8, in the first quarter en route to a 53-18 halftime lead. The 101 points for the game represents a season high for Notre Dame.

Forward Reggie Dominique had 5 of his game-high 9 steals in the first quarter and finished with 12 points.

Brian Jones led Notre Dame with 30 points. Kenny Hicks added 14 points and 12 assists for the Knights, who won their fifth consecutive game.

Jon Beauchemin and Tim Fontanette each had 10 points for Alemany.

Campbell Hall 39, Providence 38--The Pioneers rallied for 6 points in the final 2 minutes to cut the Campbell Hall lead to a point, but they were shut out in the last 30 seconds in the Delphic League game at Woodbury College.

Providence (2-11, 0-5 in league play) outscored the Vikings, 7-2, in the fourth quarter but a traveling violation in the last 30 seconds proved costly. The Pioneers did not get the ball back in the closing seconds.
