CSUN Ends 2-Year Losing Streak Against UC San Diego in Volleyball
The Cal State Northridge men’s volleyball team scratched a 2-year itch Saturday as it defeated UC San Diego in a nonconference match, 15-8, 15-8, 12-15, 15-9.
The Matadors (2-0), who were the clear favorites in the past 2 meetings, according to Northridge Coach John Price, lost to the Tritons (0-4) both in San Diego and at home.
“In each case we just didn’t play with a lot of emotion,” Price said.
Northridge, led by Bob Samuelson, dominated the San Diego front line. Samuelson had 20 kills and teammate Raphael Tulino had 20.
The Matadors stumbled in the third game and missed 8 serves. However the Matadors’ mistakes were few and far between. They had a .345 hitting percentage and, Price says, anything higher than .300 is “a great night.”
