Roundup : Chapman Holds Off Bakersfield

Bryan Richetto scored 25 points to help Chapman College to a 63-61 victory over Bakersfield in a California Collegiate Athletic Assn. basketball game Friday.
Bakersfield’s Marvin Redeemer converted a three-point play at 1:17 to trim Chapman’s lead to 62-61. But Chapman’s Dean Balco hit the front end of a 1-and-1 with 43 seconds left to give Chapman (11-9, 4-3) a 63-61 lead.
Bakersfield (14-6, 3-4) had a chance to win, but Noel Nash’s three-point shot bounced off the back iron and Von Bennett’s tip-in attempt missed. Bennett led Bakersfield with 23 points.
In Golden State Athletic Conference basketball:
Cal Baptist 102, Christ College Irvine 65--Carlos Ballesteros scored 24 points for visiting Cal Baptist (17-7, 5-3). Aaron Clasen scored 17 for CCI (4-20, 0-8).
In Western Christian Athletic Assn. basketball:
Pacific Christian 96, LIFE 61--Steve Heard and Brian Keiser led PCC (22-8, 9-0) with 17 points each.
In nonconference women’s gymnastics:
Cal State Fullerton 191.95, Stanford 183.85--The sixth-ranked Cal State Fullerton women’s gymnastics team swept all five events to set a scoring record in a 191.95-183.85 victory over Stanford (0-4) in a dual meet at Maples Pavilion Saturday. The Titans (2-1) broke their previous record for most points scored in a single gymnastics meet (189) set last week in a loss to UCLA. Fullerton’s Stacey Harris placed first in the all-around with 38.35 points, followed by teammates Lisa Dolan (38.10) and Heather Thomas (37.95). The Titans (2-1) also swept the vault, the uneven parallel bars, the balance beams and the floor exercise.
