Animals Evicted
The decision to remove the animals in the flood control basin at Marina del Rey is tragic, and the reasons given are ludicrous (Metro, Jan. 26). This beautiful refuge area has truly been an oasis in an increasingly crowded, dirty and inhospitable city, and my children and I have spent many happy hours there.
I know that those who find these animals and their tiny habitat to be “inappropriate” are also those who think nothing of polluting the Marina (Mothers’ Beach included) with sewage, garbage and fuel from their boats, and who would label covering every square inch of that land with profitable condos and restaurants “progress.” Let’s call this what it is: one more giant leap--backward--for humankind.
