Boys’ Roundup : Canyon Wins in 3-A on Hope’s Goal : Comanches Edge Eisenhower, 3-2, in Second Overtime

Steve Hope scored on a header with about 3 minutes left in the second overtime to give Canyon High School a 3-2 victory over Eisenhower in a Southern Section 3-A boys’ first-round soccer match Thursday at Canyon.

Eisenhower’s Mike Lehman scored with about 8 minutes left in regulation to tie it at 2-2. Steve Kerr and Fred Velez had scored for Canyon as the Comanches took a 2-0 lead in the second half. Juacquin Webb scored Eisenhower’s other goal.

Chris Snitko had six saves for Canyon (16-2-5). Eisenhower ends its season 7-8-6.

In other 3-A matches:

Mission Viejo 2, Foothill 0--Damon Hubbart scored in the first half and Ryan Darke in the second half for host Mission Viejo (22-3), the top-seeded team and the South Coast League champions. Foothill finishes 4-6-6.

Santa Ana 5, Millikan 0--Francisco Chavez scored three goals to lead host Santa Ana (18-1-6), the Century League champions. Marco Silva and Gus Plasencia also scored for Santa Ana. Hector Romas had four saves for Santa Ana, the playoffs’ third-seeded team. Millikan finishes 12-9-1.

In 1-A boys’ soccer matches:

Saddleback 3, Sunny Hills 0--Miguel Ochoa scored three goals for host Saddleback (11-6-3), the Sea View League champions. Sunny Hills ends its season 10-6-4.

Artesia 3, Newport Harbor 2 (sudden death)--Bryan Mallin and Tommee Walker scored for visiting Newport Harbor (9-7-5).
